I am in the process of updating this testbed directory to the latest release of ArticleMS. The transition has not gone as smooth as I could hope, but if you see this article you will know that I have worked out the kinks.

I clicked on the update link last evening. This is a version change and the update process is a two part process. The first phase updates the old version and readies it for the transition to the new system. The program runs through the update cycle and all seemed well up to this point. When the updater has run there is a link to get back to the admin panel. This worked and I was returned to my regular admin UI environment.

The update link was still showing at the top of the page, so I clicked it again. There was a pop-up with some words of wisdom. I think that I followed the words and then clicked the proceed button. Again the updater ran and there was a link to return to the admin section. I had played a bit with a beta version so the change to the UI was not a shock. I wanted to see what the site looked like, so I clicked the view site link. When I got there there was just a message stating "We are upgrading to the latest version of ArticleMS, please be patient." There was also a link that allowed for an admin sign-in.

The admin section seems to be working properly but the main site is not visible. I may need to go to the support forum for an answer if there is no help in the local help file. This is just my test bed installation. It is here for me to experiment with before making changes on one of my active sites. It is no big thing if this directory is not available, but I need to find the answer to the problem before I do any updates to production sites.

I have used the ArticleMS software in several ways on many sites. There are six article directory sites or sections. There is one more site that is primarily based on AMS. Several sites have special features using the script to allow for user generated content on those sites. It looks like I am using the script in about 16 places through my sites. Just doing a major update is enough work without the problems that I have seen with this installation. I may have done something wrong or there may be a bug in the installer. I will update this article when and if I find the answer. But, of course, if you are reading this it will mean that the problem is solved.

----------------------------------------------------

Dummy me! I looked at the glogal settings and there was a check box for 'site enabled' that was not checked. Checking the box got my home page displayed in my choosen colors, indicating that my css changes were still in tact. The site was the full width of the window. A quick edit of the header and footer templates returned the site to its normal display. There were some SEO additions made to my regular sites, but since this is a test bed installation I may not have done them here. I will have to look for those on some of the other sites when I do the updates there.

The Updater does seem to work without any problem and only seems to overwrite the necessary files. Since I found the simple solution to this problem I have much more confidence and will proceed with the other updates later this evening (probably) once I have looked around a bit more.
